In 1935, the SS Maheno drifted ashore on the coast of Fraser Island during a strong cyclone while being towed from Melbourne to Japan to be pulled apart for scrap metal. 75 years later it is one impressive piece of scrap metal, and also one of the main tourist attractions along the east coast of Fraser Island along 75 Mile Beach.
The light on this particular morning was brilliant, illuminating the left side of rusting ship perfectly, without being too harsh. Nobody else was around. The tide was out just enough to expose a lot of the ship, but also in enough to create the leading line I had in mind. There were low clouds and high whispy clouds both catching the soft warm light. This was one of those times when you’re out shooting photographs and you just know that you’re going to come home with something satisfying. The conditions couldn’t have been much better.
As always, I enjoy reading your feedback, so please leave a comment below.
Main Beach, Gold Coast
I was a little disappointed to have missed the best light of the morning due to not wanting to get out a warm bed on a cool morning, but I made the best of what was on offer when I arrived. I’m moving back across to the west with my girlfriend, Emily, soon and want to make the most of the few weeks that I have left here on the Gold Coast.
I shot this six image panorama yesterday morning down at Main Beach, an area I haven’t really explored too much before. In the past I have mostly shot from further down the coast looking back up towards where this photo was taken. I thought it was time for a change.
There is a possibilty of a photo trip down to Dangar Falls and the Border Ranges coming up shortly. I’ll keep you posted.
Twilight Surf
Last night I met up with a fellow Gold Coast photographer, by the name of Darren Tierney, to shoot Tallebudgera. Initially I thought the light was pretty average, but all of a sudden the sky began glowing with pink and orange hues, and faded out shortly after. We managed to get a couple of photos we were happy with, and this is one of mine.

Burleigh Rocks
This is an old photo from my archives that I have just found and processed. I’m not sure why I passed over it the first time around because I really like it. Very little has been done to this image in post as it was pretty much perfect straight from the camera.
