SS Decoy, South Perth

SS Decoy - Perth, Western Australia

I have wanted to shoot this angle of Perth including the Decoy for a while now, and the other night I finally got off my ass and drove down to South Perth. I think it might be better at sunrise, so I’ll have to return here early one morning, maybe over this coming week if any other Perth photographers wants to join me?

It’s a 7 photo stitch with the 5D MkII and 50mm lens. It came out at about 60″ at 300dpi, which will allow for a generous sized print.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my photographs!

Pinnacle Lookout, Border Ranges

After trekking through the Brindle Creek rain forest track for a couple of hours taking photographs of the creeks and trees, Emily and I moved further around the mountain to the Pinnacle Lookout.

The Pinnacle Lookout is located in the Border Ranges National Park in Northern New South Wales and is only a short walk from the main road that loops around the mountain. On this particular day I was pretty lucky with the cloud formations.

Shortly after taking this photo we crashed Emily’s car into a tree and wrote it off. Luckily neither of us were injured too badly.

Brindle Creek, Northern NSW

Brindle Creek in the Border Ranges National Park is one of the most impressive rain forest streams in Australia according to wikipedia. Emily and I spent a couple of hours walking through the rain forest, battling the leeches and other creepy crawlies that call this spot home. I had to balance precariously on one of the boulders in the middle of the stream for this composition, but it was well worth it in the end, I feel.

I have had limited internet connection for the last week, and won’t have it back until next week. We’re in the process of moving, so times are quite busy. Thanks to everyone who continues to read this blog, and I will get back to reading all of yours as soon as possible!

Numinbah Valley

The sky was overcast so I thought heading out into the hinterland for some waterfall photos would be a good idea. I packed all my gear quickly and jumped in the car. Initially I was heading out to shoot Twin Falls in Springbrook National Park, but I never made it that far. I found a cool little creek along the way where this photo was taken. I spent an hour or so here walking around, looking for different angles, and waiting for the light to fade.

The next stop was at Natural Bridge where my camera battery ran out after only a couple hours of shooting. The 5D MkII batteries don’t seem to last very long with live view on. I guess I better buy myself a spare or two.

Through The Trees

I’ve always wanted to try a shot like this; a really simple photo of tree trunks with lots of small detail and nice colours. I’d never really found a nice place to shoot what I had in mind, until the other day.

It’s a 6 photo stitch on a heavily overcast day. It was raining lightly while I was setting up and shooting so I had to be fairly quick to not get any water drops on the lens.
