Burleigh Heads Panoramic 26/2

I woke up this morning hoping that we’d have a nice blue sky and white fluffy clouds, but unfortunately that was not the case; their were a few too many clouds. I still made my way down to Burleigh Heads, one of my favourite spots on the Gold Coast, to shoot. It had been ages since I’d shot a beach scene in broad daylight, which is the reason I was keen to get out there even though the conditions weren’t as I had hoped. Usually, I like to shoot longer exposures once it starts to get a bit darker, or while the colours are bright orange or red.

This five photo panoramic stitch was my favourite of the morning. Once again, I’ve processed it in color and as a black and white image. I’d like your opinions on if you think the colour or black and white version is better.

The woman in the centre of this image asked me if she could take my photo as she walked by. She must have thought I was some kind of famous photographer! ;)

Twin Lakes, Bali 25/2

I shot this panorama of the Twin Lakes in Bali while I was over there last year in July.

The Twin Lakes are located in Northern Bali, near Bedugul, about 2 and a half to 3 hours drive from the tourist capital, Kuta. The lakes are known as Tamblingan Lake and Buyan Lake; Buyan Lake, on the right, being the third biggest lake on the island.

I also processed this as a black and white – not sure which I prefer yet. Any suggestions?

Last night I met up with a fellow Gold Coast photographer, by the name of Darren Tierney, to shoot Tallebudgera. Initially I thought the light was pretty average, but all of a sudden the sky began glowing with pink and orange hues, and faded out shortly after. We managed to get a couple of photos we were happy with, and this is one of mine.

This is an old photo from my archives that I have just found and processed. I’m not sure why I passed over it the first time around because I really like it. Very little has been done to this image in post as it was pretty much perfect straight from the camera.

I had been waiting for a nice overcast morning to shoot some of the farmland just out past Canungra for a while now, and this particular morning presented the perfect opportunity. There had been a lot of rain the few days preceding this one, so there was a LOT of water around, and some low cloud hovering in and around the mountains.

This is a 7 photo stitch and there is a lot of detail in the high resolution copy of this photograph. You can even see a bunch of Kookaburras sitting in the lone tree on the lower right of the scene when viewed at full size.

A Morning At Curtis Falls 15/2

Curtis Falls is probably the most popular waterfall on Mount Tamborine in the Gold Coast hinterland. I know I’ve shot here a whole heap of times, at least. I was up early this morning and decided to head out to Mount Tamborine and re-shoot the waterfall.

I decided to go for an unconventional composition with this one and have the waterfall in the centre of frame, and focus on the lower half of the falls. I’ve shot Curtis Falls so many times, I think I just wanted to try something different. The recent rainfall and flooding around the Gold Coast has pushed the huge log that sits in front of the falls right around, so I climbed out onto it instead of staying behind the barriers. This allowed me to shoot from a slightly different angle, and to get a lot closer and focus on capturing a bit more detail.

7 photos stitched. Each frame is 4 sec @ f/20 and ISO50.

A Morning At Curtis Falls

Gold Coast Hinterland 12/2

I spent a morning out in the Gold Coast hinterland a couple of weekends back while I was waiting for my girlfriend to finish work. It was quite an overcast morning, but still extremely hot, and shortly after I took this sequence of shots it started raining. Anyway, I had spent an hour or so wandering around already so decided to pack up. I ended up with this 7 shot stitch.

The colours in this photo just didn’t seem ‘right’ to me, so I converted to black and white obviously.
